MEOVV debuted in September 2024 and quickly caught attention with a concept that mixes the chic, mysterious energy of a cat with a softer and more playful side.
With songs like “MEOW,” “BODY,” “TOXIC,” “HANDS UP,” “DROP TOP,” and “BURNING UP,” MEOVV have continued to build a musical identity that feels increasingly their own.
And now, they’re taking that energy somewhere darker with “DDI RO RI.”

🐈⬛ What Does “DDI RO RI” Mean?
At first, “DDI RO RI” sounds like a playful phrase.
It doesn’t have a simple dictionary translation like an ordinary Korean word.
But in the song, it works almost like a chant — a sound that represents MEOVV letting their wild instincts loose.
Instead of hiding or waiting for the right moment, they’re stepping forward and making their presence impossible to ignore.
The feeling is basically:
“We’re here. Watch what happens next.”
That makes DDI RO RI less about the literal meaning of the words and more about the attitude and energy behind the sound.

MEOVV’s second EP BITE NOW pushes their musical identity even further.
The album contains five tracks:

Even the album title fits MEOVV perfectly.
Cats are known for watching, waiting and choosing exactly when to move.
But BITE NOW feels like the moment when the waiting is over.
Instead of holding back, MEOVV are ready to bite.
It feels like a new stage in their story — more confident, more aggressive and more willing to show exactly who they are. 🐈⬛
🎧 How Does “DDI RO RI” Sound?
One of the most striking things about “DDI RO RI” is its dark, almost gothic atmosphere.
The track incorporates a reference to Bach’s “Toccata and Fugue in D Minor,” a piece famous for its dramatic and haunting organ sound.
That classical darkness is combined with modern EDM and hip-hop elements, heavy drums and deep bass.
The result feels theatrical, intense and slightly creepy — in a good way.
It sounds like something ancient and dramatic has been pulled into a completely modern K-pop track.
And somehow, it really works.
🦇 Dark, Wild & Unapologetic
The lyrics are filled with confidence.
MEOVV aren’t asking for permission.
They’re talking about setting trends, being the blueprint and ignoring everyone who can’t keep up.
There’s also a fun connection between the lyrics and the group’s cat identity.
The imagery of hiding your true nature, waiting for an opening and then suddenly biting feels very MEOVV.
That gives the song a slightly dangerous edge.
Cute cat?
Maybe.

🎬 A Music Video That Feels Like a Dark Fantasy
And honestly, the music video might be one of the most memorable parts for me.
It’s eerie.
It’s dramatic.
And it’s definitely not trying to look cute.
The gothic imagery, dark atmosphere and almost supernatural feeling make the whole thing feel like stepping into a dark fantasy world.
At moments, it even gives me the kind of creepy fantasy atmosphere you might get from an old-school dark fantasy game.
It’s weird, slightly unsettling and very unique.
And that fits “DDI RO RI” perfectly.

Let’s learn a few Korean expressions from “DDI RO RI”!
👀 본색 (Bonsaek)
본색 means someone’s “true colors” or “true nature.”
So:
본색을 감추다
means:
“to hide your true nature.”
That expression fits MEOVV’s cat-like concept really well — staying quiet and watching before revealing what you can really do.
🆙 한 수 위 (Han Su Wi)
한 수 위 literally has the idea of being “one move ahead.”
It originally connects to games where players make moves against each other.
In everyday Korean, it means:
“a level above”
or
“one step ahead.”
So if someone says:
내가 한 수 위야
they’re basically saying:
“I’m one step ahead of you.”
🙈 무시 (Musi)
무시 means “ignoring” or “disregarding.”
The verb is:
무시하다 (musihada) = “to ignore.”
So:
나머진 다 무시
has the feeling of:
“Ignore everything else.”
Simple, confident and very fitting for this song.
🖤 모태 (Motae)
모태 literally refers to a mother’s womb.
But in modern Korean slang, it can be used to describe something that has been true “since birth.”
So when someone says they were naturally a certain way from the beginning, you might see 모태 used.
In this song:
시크한 건 모태
has the feeling of:
“I was born chic.”
Pretty MEOVV, right? 🐈⬛
🚫 감지 마 (Gamji Ma)
감다 (gamda) means “to close” your eyes.
-지 마 (-ji ma) means “don’t.”
So:
눈 감지 마
means:
“Don’t close your eyes.”
You’ll hear the -지 마 pattern constantly in Korean songs and conversations.
👁️ 지켜봐 (Jikyeobwa)
지켜보다 (jikyeoboda) means “to watch” or “to keep an eye on.”
So:
그저 지켜봐
can naturally mean:
“Just watch.”
That might be one of the best expressions to describe the confidence of the whole song.
💭 Student1’s Take
For me, “DDI RO RI” feels like MEOVV taking their cat concept and pushing it somewhere much darker.
Until now, their identity has had this mix of chic confidence, softness and feline attitude.
But this time, the claws are definitely out. 🐈⬛
The classical-inspired sound, heavy bass and gothic atmosphere make the track feel almost cinematic.
And then there’s that strange little phrase:
DDI RO RI.
It sounds playful at first.
But once you hear it inside the song, it starts feeling almost like a warning.
MEOVV have been watching.
MEOVV have been waiting.
