Geoje Yaho Meaning: What Does “거제야호” Mean? | RESCENE
Recently, one K-pop group suddenly started taking over my YouTube algorithm.
RESCENE.
At first, I just watched a few videos and moved on.
But somehow, RESCENE kept coming back.
Another video.
And another.
Then I started noticing one strange phrase over and over again:
“거제야호!”
Geoje Yaho!
Wait…
What is Geoje Yaho? 🤔
Is it the name of a song?
Is it some kind of inside joke that only RESCENE fans understand?
I had no idea, so I started looking into it.
And finally, I figured it out.
거제 + 야호 = 거제야호 😂
🏝️ First… What Is “거제”?
The first thing I had to figure out was 거제 (Geoje).
I had heard of Korean cities like Seoul and Busan through K-pop and other Korean content, but Geoje was completely new to me.
So I looked it up.
I learned that Geoje is a city in the southern part of South Korea.
And then I found the connection to RESCENE.
WONI (원이) is from Geoje.
So the 거제 (Geoje) in “거제야호” wasn’t a random word at all.
It was WONI’s hometown.
I started out trying to understand a K-pop meme and somehow ended up learning about a new Korean city. 😂
Today’s unexpected Korean geography lesson: Geoje! 🇰🇷
👋 So What Does “야호” Mean?
Okay, now I understood Geoje.
But there was still one piece missing.
What does 야호 (Yaho) mean?
At first, I thought it might be another Korean expression I didn’t know.
But when I looked into it, I learned that the “Yaho” here comes from the Japanese expression:
やっほー (Yahhō)
It’s a casual and friendly greeting, something with a feeling similar to:
“Hey!” 👋
And that’s when the whole thing started making sense.
RESCENE’s Japanese member MINAMI (미나미) appeared with a gyaru-inspired look and used the expression.
So now we have:
거제 (Geoje) = WONI’s hometown 🇰🇷
야호 (Yaho) = a casual Japanese “Hey!” 👋
Put them together:
거제야호!
Geoje Yaho!
Something that looked completely mysterious to me at first suddenly became surprisingly simple. 😂
😂 So How Did “Geoje Yaho” Become a Meme?
“Geoje Yaho” came from a video on WONI’s YouTube content.
MINAMI appeared with a gyaru-style transformation and said:
“거제! 야호~!”
“Geoje! Yaho~!”
The moment was short, but it caught people’s attention.
The phrase was easy to repeat, and the way MINAMI said it made it even more memorable.
“Geoje Yaho~!”
Once I understood the meme, I finally started to understand why I kept seeing it everywhere on my YouTube feed. 😂
🌏 Then People Started Making Their Own “Yaho”
What made it even more interesting was that the joke didn’t stop with Geoje.
As “Geoje Yaho” became popular, I started seeing the same idea used with other places.
The formula is incredibly simple:
Place + Yaho!
For example:
Seoul + Yaho = Seoul Yaho!
Busan + Yaho = Busan Yaho!
At first, 거제야호 looked like one mysterious Korean phrase I couldn’t understand.
Now that I know how it works, if I see another “___ Yaho!”, I’ll probably understand the joke immediately.
🎧 I Found RESCENE Because of “Geoje Yaho”
The funny thing is that I discovered all of this backwards.
I wasn’t already a huge RESCENE fan who happened to discover the Geoje Yaho meme.
Instead, RESCENE suddenly started appearing in my YouTube algorithm.
Then I wondered:
“What on earth is Geoje Yaho?”
That question made me look into the group.
And along the way, I didn’t just discover another K-pop group.
I learned about Geoje, a Korean city I had never heard of before.
When I first started learning about K-pop, I thought I’d mostly be learning about songs and idols.
But somehow I’m also learning Korean expressions, internet memes…
and now even Korean geography. 😂
🎀 And Then Came RESCENE – “Pretty Girl”
After discovering RESCENE through “Geoje Yaho,” I came across their song “Pretty Girl.”
And that led to another K-pop discovery.
RESCENE’s “Pretty Girl” isn’t an entirely new song.
It’s a remake of KARA’s “Pretty Girl,” originally released in 2008.
I thought that was interesting too.
A song from an earlier generation of K-pop was now being introduced again through a newer girl group.
For me, RESCENE started as a group that randomly appeared in my YouTube algorithm.
Then I became curious about a strange phrase:
“Geoje Yaho.”
That led me to WONI and MINAMI.
It taught me about a Korean city called Geoje.
And eventually, it led me to RESCENE’s music.
Maybe my YouTube algorithm knew I was going to discover RESCENE before I did. 😂
So if “거제야호~!” suddenly appears in your YouTube feed too, now you’ll know what everyone’s talking about.
거제 + 야호 = 거제야호 👋
Geoje + Yaho = Geoje Yaho!
And if this was also your first time hearing about the city of Geoje…
Congratulations.
Today we didn’t just learn something about K-pop.
We accidentally learned a little Korean geography too. 🇰🇷😂
