An Idol in Genie Cosplay? FIFTY FIFTY’s “Genie Magic”

Have you seen FIFTY FIFTY’s “Genie Magic” cosplay video?

I was searching YouTube when one thumbnail caught my eye.

A K-pop idol with a blue face, dressed as Genie.

It was Keena.

There was no way I was scrolling past that.

When I opened the video, the whole thing had gone full Aladdin. Keena was Genie, Chanelle Moon was dressed as Princess Jasmine, and Athena had the Jafar look. Yewon joined them in an Aladdin-themed costume too.

Even the title was “Genie Magic” Dance Practice (Genie’s Gift ver.).

Seeing Keena actually painted blue because the song is called “Genie Magic” was funny enough on its own.

But this song has a more interesting story behind it.

“Genie Magic” wasn’t even the title track.

It Started as a B-Side

“Genie Magic” is from FIFTY FIFTY’s fourth mini album, Imperfect-I’mperfect, released on June 1, 2026.

The title track was “Like a Bubble.”

“Genie Magic” was one of the B-sides.

After the album came out, though, fans kept talking about it. It became one of the tracks people picked as a favorite from the album, and the response was strong enough that FIFTY FIFTY eventually brought it to a music show.

On June 24, they performed “Genie Magic” on Show Champion for the first time.

So a song that started out as a B-side ended up getting its own follow-up stages because people kept showing it love.

And it didn’t stop with the music shows.

There were more performances, separate content for the song, and eventually the special dance practice that sent Keena onto YouTube dressed as a blue Genie.

There’s a Lot of Genie in “Genie Magic”

The Aladdin theme didn’t come out of nowhere.

The lyrics are full of little things you would expect from a genie story.

There’s “One wish.”

Then:

“Now rub the lamp.”

And, of course, the phrase that keeps coming back is “genie magic.”

What I like is that the song doesn’t simply have someone waiting for a genie to appear and grant a wish.

The person singing already says she has the magic.

Love itself starts to feel like the genie magic.

When Love Changes the Color of a Normal Day

One of my favorite Korean phrases in the song is:

“선명히 높아지는 채도”

It’s talking about the saturation becoming brighter and more vivid.

That fits the rest of the lyrics really well.

Nothing huge has to happen. A normal day just starts looking different when you’re in love.

Colors feel brighter. Sunlight suddenly feels lucky. Even things that would normally mean nothing can start feeling special because there’s one person on your mind.

That’s the kind of “magic” I get from this song.

The lamp and the wish come from the familiar genie story, but most of the magic is happening in the way someone sees the world after falling in love.

A B-Side the Fans Didn’t Let Go

I clicked the video because Keena dressed as Genie was impossible for me to ignore.

But after looking at how “Genie Magic” got here, I started paying more attention to something else.

This wasn’t a song that entered the album as the main title track with a full promotion plan built around it.

Fans liked the B-side, kept giving it attention, and FIFTY FIFTY ended up performing it on music shows.

Then they kept giving the song more.

More stages. More content. And eventually a special version where the members actually dressed up around the whole Genie concept.

Of course, making extra content is part of being an idol.

Still, there was something a little touching about watching them keep doing something new with a song their fans had already chosen to love.

It felt like they wanted to give “Genie Magic” every chance they could to reach more people.

Maybe that’s why the ridiculous blue Genie thumbnail ended up making me like the whole story behind the song a little more.

If you start with the original song, then watch one of the music show stages and finish with the Genie’s Gift dance practice, you can see how far this little B-side traveled after fans started giving it love.
