STAYC’s Little Sister Group Has Arrived — Meet UNCHILD

Do you remember the little girl dancing at an award show with TWICE and other K-pop idols right there?

That was Na Haeun.

She had already been dancing for years as “Awesome Haeun,” and at the 2017 Melon Music Awards, she performed choreography from the Best Dance nominees, including songs by TWICE, Red Velvet, BLACKPINK, BTS, and EXO.

Now she’s actually a member of a K-pop girl group.

The group is UNCHILD.

Haeun became an SM Entertainment trainee in 2022, so if you followed SM trainees for a while, you may have expected her to eventually show up in one of the company’s future girl groups.

Instead, she left SM, moved to High Up Entertainment, and officially debuted with UNCHILD on April 21, 2026.

STAYC’s Little Sister Group

UNCHILD is a six-member girl group with Yeeun, Heekie, Tina, Ako, Evon, and Haeun.

They’re also High Up Entertainment’s first new girl group since STAYC, which makes UNCHILD STAYC’s “little sister group” in the way K-pop fans usually describe junior artists from the same company.

Haeun, born in 2009, is the maknae.

The name UNCHILD is a little unusual too.

The “UN-” comes from the idea of going against what is considered normal or already defined. Rather than squeezing themselves into someone else’s standards, the group’s identity is built around showing the parts of themselves that might look unfamiliar or unconventional.

Their debut single was called We Are UNCHILD, and the title track was simply “UNCHILD.”

The song mixes electronic pop with rough guitar sounds, while the other track on the single, “ENERGY,” leans more into house. High Up producer Rado also worked on the title track.

But the first thing that really stuck with me about UNCHILD wasn’t their name or even their company.

It was their debut stages.

All Six Members Had Handheld Mics

UNCHILD started their first week of music shows with M Countdown on April 23, followed by Music Bank, Music Core, and Inkigayo.

All six members performed with handheld microphones.

Handheld mics obviously aren’t rare in K-pop. But seeing a girl group only a few days into their career doing choreography while every member held one definitely caught my attention.

There’s a Korean expression, 괴물 신인 (goemul sinin), literally “monster rookie.” It’s used for a newcomer who already looks unusually strong for someone who just debuted.

Watching UNCHILD’s first stages made me think of that phrase.

Then Their First Comeback Suddenly Stopped

More recently, though, the news around UNCHILD hasn’t been as fun.

Their first comeback was supposed to happen on September 2 with their second digital single, TiNG TiNG.

On August 23, UNCHILD performed at TIMA 2026 in Hong Kong and gave the first performance of “Light (TRICKY GRLS),” a song from the upcoming release.

The next day, they dropped concept photos built around a cyber, video-game-like hero theme. The comeback rollout was already well underway.

And then, on that same day, High Up Entertainment announced that TiNG TiNG had been postponed.

There was only about a week left before the September 2 release.

The reason given was simply “internal company circumstances,” and High Up said a new schedule would be announced once it was confirmed.

As of September 28, that new date still hasn’t appeared.

Since then, rumors have started circulating online claiming that investors didn’t react well to the new album and that funding problems may be behind the delay.

But that part is still just a rumor.

I couldn’t find an official statement from High Up, or reliable reporting, confirming that investment issues have anything to do with the postponed comeback.

What we actually know is much simpler: TiNG TiNG was postponed because of what the company called internal circumstances, and UNCHILD still doesn’t have a new comeback date.

For now, I think this is one of those times when we just have to wait until High Up says something more concrete.
