Hey, K-pop students! 👋
I’m Student1, just another student who loves K-pop and wants to learn and enjoy it together with you.
This one felt a little different to write about. I still know him first as Heeseung from ENHYPEN, so seeing EVAN on the screen while hearing a voice I already know is something I’m still getting used to.
“Death of Me” was released on September 7, 2026 as part of EVAN’s album DEATH OF ME, and EVAN also participated in writing and composing the song.
The title sounded pretty heavy for the beginning of a new chapter under a new name. Then I heard the chorus:
멈춘대도 this ain’t the death of me
Wait, “Death of Me”???
The chorus keeps coming back to this ain’t the death of me — whatever happens, this isn’t what ends him.
Later, there’s another line that plays with the same idea:
두려움은 six feet under
He isn’t the one being buried. Fear is the thing being left underground.
Let’s Talk About the Sound
“Death of Me” sits in an R&B/Urban space, with a restrained beat and bassline that leave a lot of room for EVAN’s vocals. He moves between a fuller voice and falsetto without the production getting too crowded around him.
The nighttime imagery fits that sound really well:
Low lights, city’s awake
고요해진 밤 그 사이에
From there, the song keeps picking up words like chase, drivin’, running, and speed. There are cliffs, poison, and short breaths in there too.
I’d actually put this on during a night drive.
Not a peaceful one, apparently. 😭
“Death of Me” Korean Pronunciation
If you can’t read Hangul yet, here are a few Korean lines that are useful for following the song.

A Few Korean Words I Looked Up
There were three Korean expressions I wanted to spend a little more time on because a basic translation loses some of the image behind them.
아로새기다 (Arosaegida)
I had to look at 아로새기다 more closely. It can mean to engrave or carve something, but it can also describe a memory or feeling being deeply engraved in your mind or heart.
That’s the word used in:
아로새겨 시작될 destiny
So there’s more permanence in 아로새기다 than simply remembering something.
날 향해 (Nal Hyanghae)
This line caught my attention:
겁 없이 다시 달려 날 향해
향해 points in a direction. You can say 너를 향해 for “toward you” or 꿈을 향해 for “toward a dream.”
Here, 날 is the shortened form of 나를, so the direction points back toward himself.
내몰리다 (Naemollida)
You’ll often see 내몰리다 when someone is pushed into a situation by circumstances rather than freely choosing to go there.
A common example is:
궁지에 내몰리다
which is close to being “driven into a corner.”
EVAN uses it with 벼랑 끝, the edge of a cliff:
내몰렸던 벼랑 끝에
So the line carries the sense of being pushed all the way to a point where there isn’t much room left to retreat.
Student1’s Take 💭
I’m used to hearing an ENHYPEN song and waiting for Heeseung’s part to come in. With “Death of Me,” there’s no part to wait for anymore. It’s his voice from beginning to end, and that changed the way I listened more than I expected.
I kept noticing LIVE in the music video too. Maybe it’s simply live as in performing live, or maybe the alive/death contrast is intentional. My brain connected the two and now I can’t unsee it.
I don’t want to turn every lyric into a clue about why he left ENHYPEN, though. There isn’t enough EVAN music yet for me to decide what his whole story or sound is supposed to be.
For now, “Death of Me” made me curious about what EVAN sounds like as EVAN.
